Community Programmes
The adoption of vital information and communication technologies forms the key focus of Cyberport, and the institution views the further development of this field as an essential component of Hong Kong’s future as a knowledge-based digital economy.
We believe that every member of society should have equal right and access to information technologies. For this purpose, we manage and organise programmes that reach out to different communities across society, educating the public on the use of ICT facilities to enhance their daily life. Some of our programmes have included community visits to Cyberport as well as marketing sponsorship on ICT adoption initiatives. Additionally, Cyberport helped found the District Cyber Centres Alliance (DCCA) to offer ICT assistance and training for low-income and disadvantaged communities.
District Cyber Centres Alliance (DCCA)
Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Information Technology Resource Centre of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Internet Professional Association jointly launched the District Cyber Centres Alliance (DCCA) and a series of award programmes with the support of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, HKSAR since 2009.
The District Cyber Centres Alliance aims to establish a district-based network to engage a wide range of support from various organisations, and to provide ICT support and training, in order to enhance the ICT capabilities and sustainability of affiliated centres throughout different districts. Targeting groups like low income families, new migrants, children, the elderly, women, the disabled and minorities, the alliance seeks to help bridge the digital divide between disadvantaged communities in the long run, as well as promote web access among their family members, friends and any other Internet users.
Riding on a network of 57 affiliated centres, the DCCA operates six service schemes to serve disadvantaged groups, namely, the “Capacity Enhancement Scheme”, “Hardware Sustainability Scheme”, “Laptop Library”, “Professional Volunteer Management”, “Cyber Community Award Scheme” and “Elderly Learning Scheme”. Details of the DCCA and each service scheme are available at http://www.dcca.hk
Marketing sponsorship on ICT adoption initiatives
Cyberport actively plans and organises a variety of initiatives to promote the adoption of ICT in the community. We welcome the participation of organisations and groups that share our vision, in order to establish even more initiatives that facilitate the understanding and usage of ICT.
Community visits
Cyberport, a pioneer of the Hong Kong ICT industry, organises a variety of regular community visits to familiarise the public with the advanced digital facilities at Cyberport, in order to enhance their understanding of the latest development of information technology. These visits are held to strengthen the close relationship between the public and the digital community, driving Hong Kong forward as a knowledge-based society.
